Who's In Charge Here?

Back me up here.

If both Bush and Cheney were impeached and -- admittedly fantasy scenario here -- prosecuted, convicted and removed from office, the next in line to occupy the office of President would be Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Correct?

The Rovepublicans are already working night and day to dismantle the Constitution. What crazy things do you think they'd do in reaction to that prospect?

Bush would get to appoint a new VP? Would that be the last thing he did before he was thrown out of the office himself?

I guess I was thinking that since they were being forced out of office in disgrace, the succession would be pretty much the same as if they'd both died at the same time.

Ah, well, it was all wishful thinking anyhow.

Bush's nominee would need to be approved by both houses, so it couldn't be too close to the Senate trial, otherwise they might boot them both and let Nancy appoint a VP.

My theory, though is that, if faced with removal from office, Bush would pardon Cheney, then resign. Cheney would then pardon Bush.

So the trick would be to get them both simultaneously.

Remove the pair from office atv the exact same time. Throw 'em both in the back of the same unmarked van. Drive directly to the docks and encase all four feet (or would it turn out to be cloven hooves?) in the same block of cement. Then load the pair of 'em onto an outbound Norwegian trawler whose captain has been generously compensated and...

Oh. Wait. We were talking about impeachment.

Ah, well. [sigh]
